What we do

Roofing done properly — the first time.

What it is

Full roof replacement, partial re-roofs, slipped or broken tile repairs, lead flashing renewal, chimney repairs, flat roof installation (EPDM, GRP, felt), ridge and hip work, fascia and soffit replacement, and full gutter renewal.

Who it's for

Homeowners with a leaking, sagging or moss-covered roof; anyone with active damp inside an upstairs ceiling; landlords whose properties have failed surveys on roof condition; homeowners selling who need the roof signed off as fit.

When you need it

After a storm has lifted tiles or torn flashing; when you see daylight in the loft, damp patches on ceilings, or sagging visible from the street; when the roof is approaching 60+ years old; or before selling, when the buyer's surveyor is going up there.

Why a specialist matters

Roofing failure is the single most expensive defect to ignore. A small lead flashing repair, left for two winters, becomes a major dry-rot job in the structural timbers. We respond fast, fix permanently, and document everything for your insurance and your buyer.

The cost of waiting

A small roof leak is the most expensive thing in your house to ignore.

What happens if it's ignored

  • Water tracking down inside a wall cavity rots structural timber, ruins plaster and grows black mould that pushes asthma into hospital territory.
  • Slipped tiles on the windward elevation lift the next row in the next storm — leading to whole sections coming off rather than a single tile fix.
  • Failed lead flashing around chimneys is the leading cause of upstairs ceiling damp in Berkshire — and most of the cases we see were easily fixable if caught early.
  • An aged roof flagged in a homebuyer's survey knocks tens of thousands off your sale price or kills the sale entirely.

Mistakes we fix every month

  • Hiring 'roofer' off Facebook who patches one tile, charges in cash and doesn't notice the failed flashing one metre to the left.
  • Painting the inside of the chimney breast to hide damp instead of fixing the lead — the damp comes through harder in three months.
  • Replacing one section of guttering instead of the whole run, leaving an uneven fall that overflows at the join.
  • Going to a cheap re-roof quote that uses concrete tiles on a roof designed for slate — adding 40+ tonnes the trusses weren't designed to carry.

Our process

A clear five-step system from first call to final handover.

  1. Step 1

    Site Visit & Inspection

We come to you, measure up, photograph the site and listen properly to what you want from the roof.

  2. Step 2

    Written Quote & Diagnosis

You get an itemised, fixed-price quote within 48 hours — labour, materials, timings and what's specifically excluded.

  3. Step 3

    Schedule & Prepare

We agree a start date, order materials in advance and protect your home — dust sheets, walkways, skip placement.

  4. Step 4

    Build & Communicate

Daily progress updates from your dedicated foreman. No subcontractor merry-go-round — you see the same faces every day.

  5. Step 5

    Sign-Off & Handover

Final walk-around with you, snags fixed on the spot — we don't leave until you're happy with the finish.

What you get

Specific outcomes — not vague promises.

Weatherproof, properly

Every flashing detail, every ridge and hip, every penetration sealed with the right material — not bitumen smeared across the gap.

50-year roof systems

Modern slate, clay tile and EPDM systems are designed to last decades when correctly installed. We install to those specs every time.

Emergency response

Tarpaulin and make-safe within 24 hours for storm damage, permanent repair quoted separately so insurance is straightforward.

Honest repair vs replace advice

We'll tell you when a quick repair is the right answer, and when a full re-roof is the only honest one. Most jobs are repairs — that's our default.

Insurer-ready paperwork

Photographs of the damage, written report and itemised invoice — everything your insurer needs to settle the claim, first time.

Scaffolded & safe

Full scaffold on any job above single-storey eaves — never ladder-and-hope work. Insured, ticketed, properly. Tower-scaffold trained crew.

The detail

Materials, methods and variations for roofing in Reading.

Berkshire roofs span everything from Welsh slate on Edwardian terraces in Caversham to interlocking concrete tile on Newbury new-builds and EPDM flat roofs on Reading extensions. The diagnosis is what matters — most leaks have nothing to do with the tiles themselves. Here's the detail.

Materials we work with

Slate
Spanish (Cupa, SSQ), Welsh (Penrhyn) or Brazilian — hooked or nailed depending on pitch and exposure. Lasts 80–120 years. The right answer for character properties.
Clay tiles
Sandtoft, Marley Acme — handmade or machine-made. Ideal for period-style new builds and replacements. 60+ year life expectancy.
Concrete interlocking tiles
Marley Modern, Redland Cambrian. Cost-effective, fast to lay, 30–50 year life. Standard for post-war and modern housing across Berkshire.
Lead flashing
Code 4 or Code 5 milled lead to BS EN 12588, dressed by hand around chimneys, abutments and valleys. The single most important detail on any roof.
EPDM rubber (flat roofs)
Firestone RubberCover single-ply EPDM, fully bonded over insulation. 50-year manufacturer warranty when installed to spec. Our default for flat roofs.
GRP fibreglass (flat roofs)
Cromar or Cure-It topcoat, hand-laid over an OSB deck. 20–25 year life. Used where shape complexity makes EPDM impractical.
Underlay & battens
Tyvek or Klober breathable membrane, treated timber battens 25mm × 50mm minimum at correct gauge for the tile spec.

Methods & techniques

Strip & re-roof
Full strip of tiles, slates, batten and felt; structural check of timbers; replacement of any rotten timber; full new underlay, batten and covering.
Slipped tile repair
Single or multiple slipped tile replacement using copper tingles or proper nail re-fixing — never silicone or 'storm fix' bands as a permanent fix.
Lead flashing renewal
Old lead stripped, mortar joint raked out, new lead code-4 minimum dressed and welted in, pointed with sand-cement and lead sealant where exposed.
Chimney repointing & repair
Often combined with new flashing — we scaffold up, repoint in matching mortar, recap if needed, and renew the lead in one visit.
Flat roof installation
Old felt stripped, deck checked and re-boarded as needed, vapour barrier, PIR insulation (warm roof), plywood overlay, EPDM bonded with contact adhesive, edge trims mechanically fixed.

Common variations & situations

  • Full pitched-roof replacement (re-roof)
  • Partial re-roof on one elevation
  • Storm damage repair (insurance work)
  • Slipped and broken tile replacement
  • Lead flashing renewal around chimneys, valleys, abutments
  • Chimney rebuilds and repointing
  • Flat-roof replacement in EPDM, GRP or felt
  • Velux and roof window installation
  • Fascia, soffit and full gutter renewal
  • Lead valley and box-gutter replacement
  • Moss removal and roof clean (no high-pressure washing — it strips the tile glaze)

Residential vs commercial

Our roofing work is mostly residential, including some specialist work on listed and period properties around Pangbourne, Goring and Henley. We do take on small commercial flat-roof work (offices, retail units) where the spec and access suit our crew.
